G. Fraser’s Obituary
EGERTON – G. Fraser King, 75, Egerton, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow, surrounded by his loving family, after a one-month battle with Glioblastoma.
Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late George and Margaret Jean (Bowen) King. He was employed for 35 years with the former Kimberley Clarke, Abercrombie, retiring in 2002. Following retirement, Fraser fished lobsters with his son, Scott for 12 years, while working in his wood and Christmas tree lots. He loved being outdoors, working in the garden, at the firewood pile, spending time at the hunting/fishing camp with his friends playing guitars, cards and enjoying a good time. Fraser enjoyed traveling with Barb and making new friends everywhere they went. He was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish where he served as an Elder, (former) Board of Managers and as a choir member for over 60 years. Fraser served with the Merigomish and District Volunteer Fire Department for several years. He shared a special bond with his grandnieces and grandnephews. Fraser will be forever remembered as “loving well and being well loved”.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Jane (Hayman); daughter, Lorna King (Jody O’Brien), Bedford; son, Scott King, Egerton; grandchildren, Christian and Eric King; Ryan Lawlor, Lauryn and Gage O’Brien; nephew, Laurence MacDonald, New Glasgow; sister-in-law, Margie (Howard) Atwater, Linacy; Barb’s nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Peggy MacDonald.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, December 5 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, December 6 in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish with Rev. Dr. J. Kenneth MacLeod officiating, assisted by Rev. Bonnie Wynn. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Merigomish at a later date.
