November 14, 1928 – December 7, 2019
It is with great sorrow that the family of Dr. Shulom Z. Friedman announces his passing on Saturday, December 7, 2019. Beloved husband and best friend of Florence (Faigie) Steinberg for over sixty-five years. Devoted father and father-in-law of Robert Friedman and Susan Scruton, Jeffrey Friedman and Brenda Langburt, and Charlie Friedman. Cherished grandfather of Jason Friedman and Meaghan Singer, Daniel Friedman; Jillian, Zachary and Tali Friedman. Son of the late Maurice and the late Dorothy Friedman; and son-in-law of the late David and the late Rose Steinberg. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Ted Friedman and Louise Gagné; and brother-in-law of Elaine and Mark Feldman. Predeceased by his other siblings and their spouses, Arthur Friedman, Melvin Friedman, Regina and Ellis Lewkowicz, Ruth and Issie Lubin, Jack Friedman, Joseph and Nancy Friedman, Gersha and Joe Fogel. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, family and all those whose lives he touched. Shulom was a widely respected ophthalmologist, a kind and gentle man, and a Mensch. Many thanks to the ICU staff at the Montreal General Hospital for their care and compassion. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Monday, December 9 at 12:00 noon. Burial at the Tifereth Beth David Jerusalem Congregation Cemetery, Tifereth Jerusalem Section, de la Savane. Shiva at his son Jeffrey’s home. Contributions in Shulom’s memory may be made to the Cummings Jewish Centre for Seniors where he volunteered, (514) 734-1825, or to the Tifereth Beth David Jerusalem Congregation, (514) 489-3841.
