With her family by her side, Lydia slipped peacefully into the night, lovingly passing into the arms of her savior. Born just outside Warsaw, Poland, she grew up on a farm before fleeing to Germany with her family during the war. After immigrating to Canada in 1949, she lived in Barrhead and then Edmonton before coming to Calgary, where she met Gerhard at a dance at The Edelweiss Club. Gerhard and Lydia were married for nearly 63 years. They moved to Abbotsford in 1989. Memories of camping trips and festive tables laden with her delicious cooking and baking fill our hearts. Her passing leaves an empty chair at these same tables. The courage and dignity with which she faced life’s challenges are a lesson we won’t forget. Lydia is survived by her husband, Gerhard, and her four children: Karin, Peter (David), Anita (Ken), and Doris (Dean). As well, she is survived by her grandchildren Megan (Dorin), Haley, Nadine, Sam and Natalie. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Lydia’s name to Peace Lutheran Church in Abbotsford. A celebration of life will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on December 22 at Peace Lutheran Church, 2029 Ware St, Abbotsford, BC, V2S 3C3 Canada.
