David’s Obituary
Walsh, David William ~ age 63 of Kingston, NS lost his fight with cancer after a two year battle, passing away peacefully in his sleep on December 23, 2019 at home. Dave was dedicated to the Military, as he was born a ‘service brat’ in Comox, BC to the late William “Bill” and Beatrice “Bea” (Flynn) Walsh on August 15, 1956. Dave bounced around Canada at several Air Force Bases until his father retired and he managed to finish school in Dartmouth, NS. David spent most of his life in uniform starting as a Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Army Cadet, and a Gunner in the Army Reserve. He then joined the Air Force as a Communications Technician, where he served 32 years. He loved the Air Force and took every opportunity to travel, serving with the UN Force in Egypt, the NATO Force in Holland and even three tours in CFS Alert above the Arctic Circle. One of his last postings was CFS Masset, where he was part of the closure team and as the senior hand he took on the mantle of Base Commander. David retired to Kingston, Nova Scotia to be near his parents. He loved his time in the Military and wanted to stay connected to it, so he wasted no time in joining the Royal Canadian Legion. There he became an active member and curator of the branches’ collection of military artifacts by creating a small, but impressive Veterans’ display room, as well as participating in the parades and the Legion’s many activities. David also loved to fish and golf and was an avid fan of Bluegrass music, attending many festivals throughout Canada. He was always a fun guy to be around and was well liked by all who knew him; which was obvious by all the lifelong friends that he remained in touch with over the years. David was predeceased by his mother, Bea and his father, Bill. He is survived by his brother, Jordan, Sooke, BC; and two nieces, Shauna and Michelle. He is very missed by all. In keeping with David’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A Legion Tribute will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 in the Royal Canadian Legion Kingston Branch # 98, 1472 Veterans Lane, followed by a reception. Private family interment will take place in the Centre Falmouth Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
