COLTER, Catherine “Kaye”, age 95 of Dartmouth passed away peacefully December 11 2019 at the Admiral Care Centre in Dartmouth. Born March 2, 1924 in Woodside (Imperoil), Kaye was the daughter of the late James Robert and Mary Ann (Bowers) MacKenzie. Raised in Dartmouth, Kaye was an active sportswoman, paddling at Lake Banook, playing basketball, curling and golfing. She worked in her mother’s grocery store, followed by years at the Patriot and the Halifax Herald as a linotype operator, later becoming a proofreader. Kaye met her husband, Ronald (Ron) when he was coaching her basketball team. They married Oct 20, 1947 and enjoyed 42 years together before his passing in 1989.
Kaye spent many enjoyable summers in Wallace, NS, making many good friends there.
Survived by her son Alexander (Sandy) Colter, daughter in law Lynne, grandsons Alex and James as well as sister in law Ruby MacKenzie and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Ron, brothers Robert (Mac) and James (Dunc), sisters Mamie Lind, Helen McLaughlin and Theresa in infancy. Visitation will be 7:00 – 8:00-p.m. Wednesday December 18, 2019, with funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Thursday December 19, 2019 both in Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen Street, Dartmouth.
