Obituary
Ann (Ball) Andrews
Hillside Boularderie
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Beverly “Ann” (Ball) Andrews, age 59, on Monday, December 2, 2019, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in North Sydney on June 3, 1960, she was the daughter of Jane (MacDonald) Ball and the late Harry Ball.
Ann was a proud member of the RCMP having served across the country in Merrit, Prince George, Whitehorse, Carmacks, Eskasoni, Baddeck, Highway Patrol and Customs and Excise in Sydney retiring as a corporal in 2014 after 33 years of service. She very much took her duties to serve and protect to heart and especially enjoyed her time and the people in the small communities in which she served, as they appreciated her for her kindness, understanding and generosity. Her spirit of compassion and her wise guidance truly changed the lives of many of those with whom she worked.
Ann was always a great adventurer, from her time piloting and later instructing glider flying to her hiking and skiing trips in the Yukon wilderness. She was an animal lover, and especially loved her dogs ; she was also a dedicated volunteer with palliative care, aiding in fundraising for children at Christmastime.
Besides her mother Jane, she is survived by her two brothers, Robert Ball (Carolin Crewe), Leitches Creek and James (Sherry) Ball, Ball’s Creek; nephews, David Ball, Ball’s Creek, Scott Ball, Thompson, Manitoba; her niece Katelyn Ball of Vancouver and many close friends in addition to her beloved hounds, Pepper and Bella.
She was predeceased by her dear husband David Andrews in 2oo6 and her partner Ian MacDonald in July 2019
Ann was a very modest person and had no idea of the extent which she was loved and admired.
She died as she lived, with great courage and compassion for those she left behind. She will be hugely missed and will inspire those of us lucky enough to have known her.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank staff of 5A of the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax and Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney, for the care and compassion shown to Ann and her family during her illness.
At Ann’s request, there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Archdeacon Reg MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the SPCA, Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or a charity of choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com
