Ann Elizabeth Wilson
March 12, 1927 – Dec 14, 2019
We pay tribute to Ann Elizabeth Wilson, who passed away peacefully in Huntsville, Ontario, on December 14, 2019, at the age of 92. Ann was predeceased by her parents George and Gertrude Wilson, and elder brother, George, and sister-in-law, Verna Wilson. She was deeply loved and will be missed by her nieces and nephews Rick, Jim, Lorraine and Joanne (and their partners), by her great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and by dear family friends, neighbours and colleagues.
Ann began working as a stenographer for the Canadian National Railways in Montreal, where she grew up. She was proud to have worked her way up to being the Executive Secretary/Assistant to six CNR Vice-Presidents.
When she transferred to work at Toronto Union Station, she also became an important member of her brother’s family in Burlington, Ontario. She later moved to Oakville, midway between her Burlington friends and the family who had moved to Toronto. After retirement, she purchased her first house, in Huntsville, Ontario where she lived for over 35 years.
Ann cared deeply for her family and friends, visiting regularly, taking trips, hosting, hugging, and being a good friend to young and old. Her trip to Japan with her Aunt Nell, her camping trips with childhood friends, and her walking vacations in the UK and Eastern Canada were highlights in her life. In Ann’s retirement, she welcomed her Aunt Anne into her home when Anne became unable to live alone.
Ann’s garden was her delight in these later years and she proudly took visitors on tours. In addition to growing flowers and vegetables, her home-grown, home-made raspberry jam was a widespread Christmas favourite! The local deer and an occasional bear would make their way into her yard to eat her berries, too.
She was an accomplished crocheter, knitter, keen reader and enjoyed eating out. She was a long-time supporter of foster children, and contributed to numerous charities.
Huge and heartfelt thanks to Aunt Ann, for having been a cherished correspondent, a strong and important role model, a dear friend and a very beloved aunt.
Cremation has taken place and following Ann’s wishes, there is no public service.
Memorial donations are welcome to the charity of your choice.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Ann Elizabeth Wilson 2019..
