Albert’s Obituary
Albert Slugoski, beloved husband of the late Rosie Slugoski of Canora and formerly of the Hazel Dell district, passed away peacefully at the Canora Hospital on December 9, 2019, at the age of 98 years.
Albert was born on September 21, 1921, on the family homestead near Hazel Dell, SK, to Blazej and Magdalene (Nowakowski) Slugoski. He attended Halycry School until grade six, when he decided to go work for local farmers, helping them with haying and harvest. In 1940, he went to work on a sugar beet farm near Raymond, AB. He then returned to the Hazel Dell District and married the love of his life, Rosie Malowney, on June 17, 1943 at the Dobrowody Church. The couple stayed with Albert’s parents a short time before relocating to Copper Mountain, BC, where Albert accepted a job on the diamond drill at the mine.
In the spring of 1948, they returned to the Hazel Dell area, where they purchased a half section of land from Albert’s brother and an additional half section from Roy Werboweski. They spent many long hours clearing the land, plowing with horses and later with powered machinery for more crop to be seeded. Albert and Rosie were blessed with four children: Lorraine, Lawrence, Barry, and Sadie. Together, they raised their family and maintained a mixed farming operation. They kept Hereford cattle and continued to grain farm until 1995, when they retired, sold their farm, and moved to Canora, SK. Albert will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was predeceased by his parents, Blazej and Magdalene; wife, Rosie; son, Lawrence and daughter, Lorraine; seven brothers and two sisters.
Albert is lovingly remembered by his son, Barry (Debbie) and daughter, Sadie; daughter-in-law, Lorraine; son-in-law, Steve; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
The Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 13, 2019, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Rev. Miles Russell of the Trinity United Church, Preeceville, SK, officiating. Interment follow in the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to a Charity of Donor’s Choice, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Albert Slugoski.
