Obituary of Blenda Derby
Mary “Blenda” (MacGillivray) Derby, passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care unit of the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home with her sister Marjorie and cousins by her side, on November 27, 2019. Born in Antigonish on October 17, 1939 she was a daughter of Angus and Ester (MacInnis) MacGillivray.
Blenda grew up in North Lakevale and was a much-loved babysitter for various families in the Antigonish area for a number of years.She moved to Massachusetts where she workrd for Irving B. Moore Corp. in Cambridge for about twenty years. Blenda met her husband, Richard Derby there, and when the plant closed, they returned to Antigonish. Card games and bingo were two of her favorite forms of entertainment.
Surviving are sisters Marjorie Chisholm, Beth (Rollie) Uloth, Rita (Pat) Sole, brothers Joe (Sue) Moore and Douglas Thompson.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Richard Derby and brothers Donald (Jean) and John R. MacGillivray.
By request, there will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass 10:00 am Friday, December 13, 2019 in St. Columba Church, Lakevale, Rev. Andrew Boyd presiding.Burial in the parish cemetery.
