Lillian Austin
1915-2019
The death of Lillian Austin of Minto, NB occurred Saturday, December
7, 2019 at the age of 104.
Born in New Waterford, NS on July 29, 1915, she was the daughter of
the late Daniel and Flora (MacDonald) Gillis.
Lillian moved to Minto at the age 14, where she met and married Lester
E. Austin. An avid bowler until the young age of 90, what Lillian
clearly loved was her family and of course chocolate. Nothing made her
day more than a visit from a family member or a friend over a nice cup
of tea. She had a huge heart and giving to others is what made her
happy. If she had it and you needed it, she never hesitated. She was
well known for her homemade chocolate cake with boiled frosting. If
there was a funeral, birthday, get together or just a need for a piece
of Lillys cake she would whip it together and deliver it with love.
She has left her family and all who loved her with a sense of what
family means. Her values and how she lived her life have been
instilled in us all. She will be forever loved and there is no finer
example of “A Life Well Lived”
She is survived by her son, Dave Austin (Gladys); her grandchildren,
Terri Caissie, Darren Austin (Sylvia), Roy Hickey (Marion), Charlene
Hickey (Derrick) and Rosalind Oakes (Steve); great grandchildren,
Mitchel Caissie, Bradley Caissie, Christina Madore, Katelyn Austin,
Ashley Garnett, Alex Garnett, Danielle Hickey and Dylan Oaks; great
great grandchildren, Jade Madore and Cameron Hickey; her sister,
Veronica MacEachern; son-in-law, Patrick Hickey as well as several
nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Lillian was predeceased by her husband,
Lester E. Austin in 1985; an infant son, John Austin; a daughter,
Linda Hickey; sisters, Mary Gould and Annie Pringle.
Resting at Hogg Funeral & Cremation Services, 10 King Street,
Minto with visitation on Thursday from 4-7pm. Funeral Mass will be
celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, December 13, 2019 from Holy Rosary Roman
Catholic Church. Internment will take place in Saint Bridget’s
