Thomas Durning October 22nd 1946 November 1st 2019

Passed away peacefully in Langley, B.C. on November 1, 2019. Beloved first son of Ellen Durning and the late William Durning. Survived by his partner Gillian Bryant and siblings John, Charlotte (Marty), Peter (Marijke) and Cathy (Malcolm). He will be terribly missed by his beloved nieces & nephews Natalie (Lee), Kathryn (Chuck), Matthew, Anne, Kevin, Michael, Max & Katie, & grand niece & nephew Kate & Charlie. Tom was proud beyond measure of them all.
For 25 years, Tom promoted the legal protection of tenants in BC through his work at the TRAC Tenant Resource & Advisory Centre. He was the longest serving staff member at TRAC when he retired. A passionate advocate for fairness in residential tenancy legislation, he worked tirelessly to bring awareness to the issues of affordable housing and renters’ rights.
Although Vancouver was a home he loved for over 40 years, he remained a profoundly proud NDGer (Montreal). He loved the Habs & the Als, but most of all his family, friends & a good joke. He was a true original.
Tom, we will miss your humour, your passion, your kindness and the much-needed voice you lent to those who needed it. We know that those you mentored and inspired through the years will continue to fight the good fight.
Services will be held in Vancouver on Thursday, November 7 at 11a.m.at Kearney Funeral Services, 450 W 2nd Ave, Vancouver V5Y 1E2.
Donations to the Tenant Resource Advisory Centre (TRAC) in honour of Tom would be greatly appreciated.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Thomas Durning October 22nd 1946 November 1st 2019..
