Roberta Christine Butterworth

It is with deep sorrow that we, the family of Roberta Butterworth, announce her peaceful passing at the age of 81 on Friday, November 15, 2019, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Port Morien, she was the daughter of the late Freeman and Kay (MacKenzie) Wadden.
Roberta was a bookkeeper and secretary for many businesses in Sydney. She took great pride in her work, retiring in her 70s from Island Auto Glass. She grew up playing in various sport leagues and continued on later in life including, bowling, basketball, baseball, curling and golf. Roberta was very passionate about politics and especially, sports. She loved the Cape Breton Eagles and cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs, Sidney Crosby, Tiger Woods and her favorite curlers.Roberta loved to have a good time and share a laugh wherever she was. She enjoyed summers camping in Ainslie Village for many years. Roberta was well-known for her crocheted dish clothes, which she often donated to charities.
Roberta is survived by her beloved son, Jamie (Karen), Coxheath; sons, Bobby (Trisha), Edmonton and Ken (Jody), Halifax; daughter, Kathy (Sam), ON; sisters, Joan (Don) Cooper, ON and Gertrude (Ron) Upson, Sydney; brothers, Kenzie (Judy), Glace Bay and Billy (Elaine); grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and her grand-furbaby, Haylee. She is also survived by her close friend, Brenda “Boo”.
Roberta was predeceased by her husband, John in 2011; cherished uncles, Earl Wadden and Clare Wadden; and aunt, Dot Morrison.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, November 20 from 1-3 p.m. followed by a service in the chapel at 3 p.m., with Mrs. Debbie Glabay officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Family flowers only. Memorials may be made to the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
