Marilyn’s Obituary
Locke, Marilyn Doris (Nickerson) 87, of Shelburne passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 10th 2019 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital, surrounded by members of her loving family. Marilyn was born on March 30th, 1932 in Greenwich, Connecticut. She was the eldest daughter of the late Sidney and Mary (Webber) Nickerson of Centreville, Cape Sable Island. Marilyn attended school in Centreville, later graduating from Normal College, Truro in 1952. She married Richard (Dick) Locke on June 30th, 1954. Marilyn taught for 27 years throughout Jordan Bay, Clark’s Harbour and finished her career in Shelburne. Marilyn’s happy place was working on her lawn and tending her gardens. She thoroughly enjoyed our family gatherings at Locke’s Rest and the grandchildren could never leave Nanny’s house without reaching our hand in the cookie jar. Marilyn was a Charter Member of the SVFD Ladies Auxiliary and a long time UCW member for Trinity United Church in Shelburne. Marilyn spent many hours volunteering at Tottie’s Crafts on Dock Street. She also spent many years canvassing her neighbourhood and beyond on foot for The Heart and Stroke Foundation. Marilyn will be forever loved and never forgotten by her 6 boys, Jerry (Merni), Darrell (Shirley), Mike (Moe), Steven (Angela), Kevin, Herb (Wanda) and special niece Carolyn of Newmarket, Ontario. She was the best Nanny, Grammie and Mammie to Kelly, Stacy(Chris), Cari(Brandon), Andrew(Jocelyn), Sarah(Shawn), Tim(Lisa), Erin, Alan, Dawn(Daniel), Megan, Shannon(Simon), Matthew, Lauren, Katie and Alan and her 13 great grandchildren. Marilyn is survived by siblings Bob, Robie, Adrienne, Burnley, Stella and Mary-Ann, their spouses and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Richard (Dick) Locke. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 18th at Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Shelburne from 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 19th at 2pm, at Trinity United Church, 36 John Street, Shelburne with Rev. Lesley Hamilton officiating. Reception will be held immediately following the service at the Church Hall. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Trinity United Church Shelburne or charity of choice in Marilyn’s name. Marilyn’s family would like to say thank you to Dr. Keeler for his many years of compassionate care and the nurses, doctors and staff of 4 East at Yarmouth Regional Hospital for the wonderful care given to our Mother and Grandmother.
