Janice Audrey McKall
During the early hours of November 5th 2019, Janice Audrey McKall passed peacefully from this world. Throughout her 76 years of life, Janice brought the light of passion, humour and caring to all those who walked the journey of life with her. She will be greatly missed by family, friends and the caregivers at Riverside Glen, who made the latter years of her life special.
Janice (nee Molasky) was born on January 21st, 1943 in East Kildonan, Winnipeg to Mike and Ann Molasky. She had two younger sisters, Linda and Doreen, to share the joys of growing up in Winnipeg during the 1950s.
Janice received a First Class Teaching Diploma in 1961 and began a life-long love of teaching children that she would return to in later years of her life. She attended the University of Winnipeg in 1991 to gain an Educational Assistant Diploma, and taught children with elevated educational needs for the next 15 years. She was often teaching children with severe difficulties, and the caring relationships she forged with these students brought order to their trouble lives.
Janice met David Michael McKall, the love of her life, and they were married in the St. Peter and Paul Church on Marion Street, on the 11th of July, 1964. Family was soon to follow with Kim, Darren and Craig filling the rooms of 154 Clearwater Road with the sounds of young footsteps.
David surprised Janice with a cottage at Grand Beach in 1972, which was to become the family’s summer base of sun, sand, and swimming for the next 25 years. The times spent in the First Street cottage would be the foundation of family fun that still sparkles in our memories today.
After raising her 3 children through elementary school, Janice followed her enthusiasm for fashion by joining the women’s clothing department at the Bay. This eventually led to an assistant manager’s position at the Tan Jay shop in St. Vital Shopping Center.
With the unfortunate passing of David in 1986, Janice had to face the challenge of raising 3 teenagers on her own. Relying on her indomitable positive spirit, she supported all three young adults through long years of university courses in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Ottawa and Kingston. She somehow also found the energy to build a wide circle of new friends and be the life of middle-years social events.
Janice was an avid sports fan, and she played curling for decades until her knees could no longer handle the ice. She continued to enjoy the spectacle of the Canadian Bonspiels for the rest of her life. She remained a fan of the Blue Bombers, despite being in Ontario for the last 20 years, and would cheer on the New England Patriots in the NFL.
After moving to Guelph in 1998, Janice joined the Catholic Education board as a Teaching Assistant to once again help young students with their lives. She had the great fortune to be nearby to help with her first set of grand-children, Mathew, Daniela and Justin, whom she witnessed growing up to being accepted into university programs across Ontario.
Despite the distances that broadened her family from Australia to England, Janice’s priorities always circled back to family. Linda Nelin remains in Winnipeg, with her children Jason married to Lauren and Lindsey married to Conor. Doreen Molasky lives in Sydney, Australia, with her sons Lawson married to Patti and Bryce practicing law
in London, England. Ernie and Joan Shume live on Marion Street, with their daughters Ambra, with Tim, being in Ottawa and Teresa, with Will, in Grand Forks. Walter and Marcia McKall live in Edmonton, with their daughters Janine, with James, in Yellowknife and Kathryn, with Mark, in Vancouver. Kim and Ben are centered in Guelph, with their children Mathew, Daniela and Justin at nearby Universities. Darren lives in mid-town Toronto with his son Michael. Craig and Joanne live in Tunbridge Wells, England with their children Connor and Dana. We will all miss the light that her personality brought into any occasion that she joined.
Throughout her life, Janice made many friends across Winnipeg, who made her journey in life full of laughter and fun. While she did not keep up connections with you, we know you meant a lot to building a great life.
A special thanks from the family goes to the staff at Riverside Glen, who have made the challenging last years of Janice’s life filled with humour and dignity.
Funeral services will be performed both in Guelph and Winnipeg.
On Sunday, November 10th, public visitation will be held between 3pm to 5 pm at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph, ON, with a Private Family Service to follow.
On Wednesday, November 13th, a visitation will be held at 1:30pm with a Funeral Service to follow at 2pm at E.J. Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald Street, Winnipeg, MB. A procession to the St. Boniface Cemetery for the final Burial Service will take place afterwards.
