1949-2019
With her family by her side, Iris Jane Nicholas of Tobique First
Nation, NB, passed away peacefully at her home on November 26,
2019.
Iris was born in Perth-Andover, NB, on January 16, 1949. She was the
daughter of the late Lewis and Veronica (Deveau) Nicholas. Iris leaves
behind her daughters, Michelle Augustine (Joseph) of Tobique First
Nation, NB, Sara Nicholas of Manchester, NH; her sons, Todd Nicholas
of Tobique First Nation, NB, Thomas Van Oorschot (Jeani) of South
Mountain, ON, and Jason Nicholas of Tobique First Nation, NB; her
sisters, Jeannette Brewer (Gene) of Texas, Elizabeth Polchies, of
Orono, ME, Nancy Polchies, of Peter Dana Point, ME, Dorothy Bear of
Virginia, and Imelda Perley (David) of Fredericton, NB; her brothers,
Vaughn Nicholas (Bernie) of Tobique First nation, NB, Eldon Bernard
(Della) of Tobique First Nation, NB, Roger Paul (Paula) of Hamden, ME,
Christie Polchies of Peter Dana Point, ME.
Iris was predeceased by her parents; her son, Troy Nicholas; her
sister, Mona Nicholas; her brothers, Dickie Stevens, Wayne Nicholas,
Roger Nicholas, and Robert Tomah.
Iris was a retired school teacher and a Survivor of Canada’s
Residential Schools.
Resting at her home, 213 Main St., Tobique First Nation, NB, with
visitation starting at 12 noon on Thursday until 8 pm on Friday.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019, at 2 pm
from Iris’ home. William and Connie Nevin will be celebrating.
For those who wish, memorial donations to the Maliseet Language Class
at Mah-Sos School would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home,
Perth-Andover, NB.
