Gloria Munro 19312019

Gloria Munro
1931-2019
Gloria Mabel Munro, age 88. On November 2, 2019, Gloria
passed away peacefully at the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
Born and raised on the family farm in Merigomish, she was a daughter
of the late John and Greta Cameron. She moved to New Glasgow where she
met and married her husband of 48 years, Don Munro, and raised their
three children. She loved her family and enjoyed being involved as a
Cub leader with Donnie and Paul and a CGIT leader with Judy. Gloria
loved to socialize and was known for her sense of humor. She could be
found sitting at the piano for hours during a family gathering leading
the singsong. She enjoyed her weekly bridge games with her friends,
playing into her eighties. She loved spending her summers with family
and friends at the family cottage at Chance Harbour. Mom was very
artistic, creating beautiful artwork and pottery pieces that will be
cherished for many years.
She was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, St.
Andrews Ladies Aid Society and volunteered for many years with the
Aberdeen Hospital Auxiliary. Recently, she proudly received her 65
year jewel from Eastern Star.
Gloria is survived by her children: Donnie (Susan), Judy
Murdock (Zeph), Paul (Joanne); sister, Doris MacKenzie (Robert); 8
grandchildren: Sandi (Glen), Kimberly (Dave), Corey (Carlee), Nick
(Alyssa), Mallory (Corey), Trevor, Sean (Meg) and Julianne. GiGi will
be fondly remembered by her 9 great-grandchildren: Zeph, Mae, Hailey,
Sam, Violet, Ethan, Willow, Owen and Amber; her nieces, nephews and
brothers and sisters-in-law. She was predeceased by her husband,
Donald Earle; sister, Dorothy Pike and nephew, Byron
Pike.
Special thanks to the VON and Continuing Care for providing
Mom the care and means to remain in her home for as long as she did.
Thanks to the doctors, nurses and all other healthcare professionals
who provided excellent care and compassion to Mom during her stay in
the Aberdeen Hospital. Appreciation to the volunteers in Palliative
Care, bringing comfort to Mom and her family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to R.H. Porter Funeral Home,
55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow, with visitation 6-9pm Thursday, November
7. Funeral service to be held 2pm Friday, November 8, at The Kirk (St.
Andrews Presbyterian Church), New Glasgow, with Rev. Dr. Joon Ki Kim
officiating. Family burial at a later date. Donations in her memory
may be made to Merigomish Cemetery.

  1. Sincere sympathy to the Munro family. We always enjoyed time with Gloria – best sense of humour and excellent wit. You could count on laughter whenever Gloria was in the room, and that is a very special gift.

Humour, talent and a terrific family. Gloria leaves a wonderful legacy.
