It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cheryl Maglio-Foote on Wednesday November 20, 2019 after a battle with Dementia. She was born in Nelson on October 17, 1958 and that is where her heart remained. As a fixture of the community, she attended LV Rogers School, before moving onto several jobs in town. From an A&W roller girl, to Hood’s bakery, to the Credit Union, to Quality Produce, Cowan’s Office Supply and finally finishing up her career at the Nelson Star, she was a visible figure in the Kootenays. She embodied what it was to be from Nelson – she was hearty, full of love and had a spirit of determination. Her warmth and unbridled commitment to her friends and family will be sadly missed.
She leaves behind her three daughters Erica, Ashley and Alyssa and their spouses; her grandchildren: Ethan, Beau and Riley; her brothers John, Terry and Glenn; her sister Lynn; her Step-Mother Marilyn and hundreds of close friends and loved ones. However, she joins her father, John Maglio and her beloved mother, Phyllis Stevens. Special thank you to Pat, Catherine, Glenda, Terry, Shauna, Jenn, Rod, and all those who spent countless hours by her bedside in her final years. Mountain Lakes provided high quality care and their classy send-off where the entire staff gathered to see her leave the facility will remain in our hearts forever.
As a tribute to Cheryl, who was famous for her hugs, laughter and love of socializing around a warm cup of tea, please hold a loved one close, phone a friend you haven’t spoken to in awhile and savour a cup of tea. When you do that, she is there with you.
Cheryl loved unconditionally and sacrificed a great deal for her friends, family and loved ones. She will be intensely missed. As an ardent fan of Elton John, and a person who loved everyone for who they were, she reminded us “how wonderful life is while you’re in the world.” But to a beautiful mother, a loving friend and an amazing woman, we would love to remind her of “A Candle in the Wind.” Specifically, where Elton John sang “Your candle’s burned out long before your legend ever will.”
We love you Mom.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the early summer and will be announced at a later date.
