Dr. Hugh MacLean Davidson
1935-2019
Dr. Hugh MacLean Davidson – age 84, of Wolfville, formerly of
Greenfield, passed away surrounded by family on November 11, 2019.
Born in Ottawa, he was the son of the late Robert and Mary (MacLean)
Davidson. Hugh attended Carlton University where he
graduated with a degree in Mathematics. He would go on to
attend the University of Toronto where he graduated with a Bachelors
of Applied Science in 1958. He then attended Dalhousie
University, earning both a Masters in Mathematics (1965) and his Ph.D.
in Statistics (1974). Hugh joined the School of Business at
Acadia University in 1975 where he taught for 20 years before retiring
in 1995. One of Hugh’s great passions in life was training
and running English springer spaniels in field trials across North
America. His successful trialing career included his dog Tex winning
the Canadian National Open Championship in 2002 and Bird placing in
three North American championships in one year. You could still find
Hugh out with the Trudels and the rest of the “dog
crew” this fall training his dog Stonington North Star. Above
all else, Hugh was so proud of his wife, Mary and his family; and
never missed an opportunity to celebrate and support his
grandchildren. He loved all kinds of music, a good book, and
a great bottle of Scotch-o! He is survived by daughters, Erica (Lisa)
McGill, Jennifer (Dr. David) Ingham, both of Wolfville, Elizabeth (Dr.
Trevor) Hove, Yorkton, SK; son, Rob (Mary) Davidson, Leduc, AB;
grandchildren, Megan (Michael) McLean, Cameron, Matthew, Etain, Caleb,
Bredin, Samuel, Fiona, Delaney, and Chloe; and great granddaughter
Lily. Hugh was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Mary;
his sister, Janet Hurst (Davidson), and grandson, Jeremy Ingham.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request.
A celebration of life, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00
