Obituary
The family of David Edgar Garnett loving husband of Berniece (Howlett) are heartbroken to announce his passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday November 25th, 2019. David was born April 28, 1931 in Garnett Settlement to the late Daniel Maynes Garnett and Laura Freda (McArthur) Garnett from Prince Edward Island.
David had an infectious smile, loved to joke around and make everyone laugh. He was very proud of the family and life he built with his beautiful wife of over 70 years.
David’s career as Boilermaker was spent at the Saint John Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company Limited, retiring after 40+ years.
David was a very social and active person his entire life – his formative years were spent on the baseball diamond he was the catcher – his most memorable years were playing for the Silver Falls Aces that went on to win a Maritime Championship in the early 60’s.
David then turned his focus toward golf which he played for 30+ years – he was a member of Westfield Golf & Country Club for many years and is particularly proud of his hole in one in 1997! David’s passion for golf led him to travel to participate in many tournaments with his buddy Dave Kean and group golf trips to Myrtle Beach. More recently his membership was with the Hampton Golf Club.
David turned to bowling during the winter months in order to remain active and social. He was part of two different leagues for 20+ years.
David is survived by his wife of 70 years Audrey Berniece (Howlett), children; Gail Proctor (Bob) of St. Martins, Louise Jackson of Quispamsis, Betty MacMillan of Saint John, Wayne (Mina) of Garnett Settlement and Brenda Fowler (Kevin) of Upham, as well as his grandchildren; Darin Proctor (Sue), Ian Proctor, Tammy LeBlanc (Jeff), Krista Murray (Ed), Shelly Hicks (Scott), Tara Richard (Pete), Colin Huttges, Cayman Grant-City (Terry), Peter Huttges (Rebecca), William Huttges (Chelsie ), Tanya Fowler (Todd), Jamie Fowler (Jill): sisters Louise “Petney” Hewitt of Saint John and Donna Drew of Alberta; 28 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
