1927-2019
Allison L. “Al” Close of Kennth E.
Spencer Memorial Home formerly of People’s Park Tower and Riverview
passed away at his residence on Friday, November 29, 2019 at the age
of 92. Born in Salisbury he was a son of the late John and Gertrude
(Lounsbury) Close.
Al retired as manager of the Distribution Centre at Co-op
Atlantic and formerly was employed at CN and in Massachusetts,
USA.
He was an avid softball player in his early life,
playing for the Salisbury Flyers in the 40’s and 50’s.
His
dry humour and wit always managed to get a smile or laugh from those
around him. Al enjoyed socializing and playing cards with
friends.
He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church and was the Past
Master and former Treasurer of Salisbury Lodge # 20 F&AM and a
member of Co-op Atlantic Retirees Association.
Allison was the last surviving member of his immediate
family.
He is survived by his fiancé Joyce
Murphy; special friend, Carolyn McLean; sister-in-law, Kay Close;
brother-in-law, James Cook; friend, Sandy Wereley; special nephew,
Duane Lounsbury as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his first
wife, Ruth (Woods) in 1986 and his second wife, Clara (Cook, Steeves)
in 2017; sisters: Annie Gamblin MacFarlane, Estella Douthwright and
Ruth Armastrong; brothers: Gordon, Roy, Stanley and
Wilfred.
Visitation will be held at Tuttle Brothers
& Riverview Funeral Home on Monday, December 2, 2019 from
6:00pm until 8:00pm.
The Funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s United Church,
404 Cleveland Ave. Riverview, on Tuesday, December 03, 2019 at 11:00am
with Steve Berube and Fr: Phil officiating.
Interment will be in Fairhaven Memorial
Gardens.
The family wishes to express thanks to the staff of Evergreen
wing at Spencers for Allison’s care during the past few months.
Donations in Allison’s memory made to the charity of the donor’s
choice would be appreciated.
