It is with broken hearts we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Jimmy on Thursday, October 17, 2019, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.
Born in Springhill on March 5, 1934, he was the son of the late Everett and Eunice (Thompson) Brown.
Jimmy was a proud coal miner and worked in the mines in Springhill before moving to Sydney Mines in 1958, where he worked in the Princess and Prince mines until his retirement in 1989. He always enjoyed spending time with family, and in his younger years enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking and watching Saturday night hockey, especially the Toronto Maple Leaf games.
He will be forever missed by his wife of 61 years, Bessie (House), his children Melvin Devoe (Christine), Halifax, Geraldine (Kevin Jackson), Bras d’Or, Valerie (Ronnie Day), North Sydney, and Jimmy (Sherry), Halifax, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, sister Lila Wagner, Lunenburg, and brother-in-law Eugene White, Springhill.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Darrell (wife Joyce), brother Merlin, sister Glenda (husband Stan), sister Beverley, and brother-in-law Victor Wagner.
Jimmy’s family would like to thank Dr. Beth MacCormick and Amanda, and the staff of Steelworkers Lane in Harbourstone for their years of care and compassion to Jimmy and his family.
There will be no visitation by request. The funeral service will take place on Monday, October 28, 2019, at 11 am in Trinity Anglican Church, Queen St., Sydney Mines, with Rev. Stacey LeMoine officiating. Donations in Jimmy’s memory may be made to Trinity Anglican Church, or a charity of your choice. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
