On Thursday, October 3, 2019 James Harvey Gillespie passed away at the Ottawa Civic Hospital surrounded by family. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ruth; and his daughters, Vicki (Darrell) Harvey, Chris (Dave Chaudhari) Gillespie, Alison (Richard) Thomas, and Sheila (Rob) Dowell. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Brenden (Tierney), Conlin, Duncan, William, Lauren, Marley and Scott. He was well loved by his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother and 3 sisters. Harvey enjoyed life fully. He was a painter and photographer. Music was an important part of his life. He was a dedicated volunteer with the National Aviation Museum for over 25 years following retirement. Dad had a gentle spirit and with a wonderful sense of humour. We were blessed to have him with us for 88 years. A gathering of friends and family will be held on Monday, October 7th, 2019 from 3–5 p.m. at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Rd (at Roosevelt), Ottawa. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the National Aviation Museum or your charity of choice.
