Obituary for
Wayland Versteegen
VERSTEEGEN, Wayland – It is with heavy hearts that we want to share the passing of Wayland on the night of September 19th at the age of 37. Accident or not, in the end what matters to us and hopefully to you too is that he is at rest now, finding his peace and leaving all of his struggles behind. Our dear Wayland, your fight is over. Wayland was born on April 2, 1982 in St. Catharines to Herman and Eva Versteegen. The youngest of four, leaving behind his sister Georgia, brothers Aston-Martin and Ryan. Wayland was a loving husband to Amika and a devoted father to their children, Nova,Yuna and Kazuhiro, loved forever in their hearts. Wayland will be dearly missed as an uncle to Kaitlyn, Cassandra, Stormy River, Aishah, Zubayr, Omar and Khadijah and his family from the Netherlands, some he hardly seen but never kept loving from afar. Wayland never stopped reinventing himself, he was a jack of all trades. Constantly challenging himself to learn more. For his latest accomplishment Wayland successfully graduated as a cabinet maker in June 2019 from Conestoga College in Kitchener. He had a passion for taking things apart and putting them back together again, fixing many things in and around the house. He loved his music, drum ‘n’ bass and his love for video games which he started educating his children in. In nature he was most at ease, kind hearted to all animals and exploring. Mental illness is closer to you than you think so in lieu of flowers (or donations) we would like you to take the time for your family, friend or neighbour. Go for a walk in the forest. Give a stranger a smile. The simplest gestures can change a moment for another. We all came to this world alone, let us connect and share our love. We hope you can come memorialize, celebrate and honor the love; the life Wayland left behind.
The family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls, on Thursday September 26 from 5-8pm. Cremation has taken place.
