Valerie dedicated her life to service – both to her community and her faith.
Valerie was known for her beautiful smile and kind heart. She was noted for her generosity – donating her time and her well known chocolate and carrot cakes to such local organizations as the Royal Canadian Legion, the Knights of Columbus, the Lions Club and Fishermans’ Cove.
She was a dedicated member of the Eastern Passage/Cow Bay Lions Club, serving for a number of years on the executive and organizing 20 years of fundraising for the Lions Club of Canada Guide Dog program, in which she raised over $200,000. She received over 20 awards from the Lions Club for her continued service and was made a lifetime member of the Lions Club.
Valerie was also an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion; serving on all the positions of the board, served 4 years as a commander of her zone which contained 11 different legions. She was a volunteer with the Dartmouth General Ladies Auxiliary and served on the executive of the Eastern Passage Beacon.
Valerie was a dedicated supporter of the Knights of Columbus, a lay reader for St. Andrew’s Parish and delivered the host to patients at the Dartmouth General Hospital.
Valerie’s family would like to express their gratitude for the wonderful care she received from the emergency ward and the palliative care team at the Dartmouth General Hospital; as well, the VON nurses and the palliative care unit in Halifax. All these professionals were exceptional and empathetic. God bless them all.
