Margaret Ethel Renouf Swan
Margaret was born to Nellie and Stanley Renouf in Albany, California on 6 December 1931, their youngest following Ethel, Stanley, Frank, (Clifford) “Bob”, and Phyllis. She quietly slipped away on
9 September 2019.
When she was 9 they moved to Vancouver Island. She said that she’d always lived in beautiful places: next to the experimental farm in Berkeley, the Garry Oak meadows in Victoria, the Douglas Fir forest in Cobble Hill, and lastly, the lovely gardens at Cairnsmore Place.
As a young woman, Marg thought she was perhaps called to be a missionary but then she met Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome and plans changed (much to the relief of her parents!). Margaret and Leonard married and went on to have Joanelle, Brian, Wendy, and Reginald. Sons and daughters-in-law followed: Al, Wayne, Patricia, Deedra, Ken, and Teresa. She and Len then welcomed grandchildren Alisa, Janina, Anja, Bill, and Kristy. Later one great grandchild–Silas–joined the family. As each of her siblings passed on, she enjoyed the company of her nieces even more, especially: Phyllis Parsons,
Gayle Renouf, and Lois Hemstalk James.
Her faith was precious to her and she played the piano for many Sunday school and church functions.
Her grandchildren and one great grandchild were the pride and joy of her life. The legacy of Margaret’s kind spirit, passion for nature, and love of reading and learning, will live on through them.
We’re going to miss her warm-heartedness, sense of humour, respect for wildlife and wilderness, and her regal wave to all who she passed in her wheelchair!
In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to:
Sierra Club Canada or Oxfam
Marg always enjoyed a “cuppa” so come join us for a Memorial Tea to be held on 21 September at 2 p.m. at Mill Bay Baptist Fellowship.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Swan Renouf Margaret Ethel Marg..
