Obituary of Ruby “Marie” Kononoff
KONONOFF, (Ruby) Marie
1935 – 2019
Absent from the body, present with the Lord.
Marie, in her 83rd year, completed her race on September 27, 2019. Marie was born on October 30, 1935 to Victor and Kate (Heichman) Kononoff. She grew up on a farm near Arelee, Saskatchewan with her parents and four siblings: Val, Mavis, Wally and Ben.
Her elementary school years were spent in country schools in the Arelee area. She moved to Saskatoon to complete her high school education at City Park Collegiate. Education was important to her parents and they encouraged and supported their children to further these goals. After high school Marie enrolled in a 3 year nursing diploma program at Saskatoon City Hospital, graduating in 1957. She had a long and dedicated career as a Registered Nurse. In 1994, she retired from nursing as the head nurse-manager at Saskatoon City Hospital. She integrated her faith into all areas of her life. Marie sponsored Nurses Christian Fellowship at Saskatoon City Hospital, was on the founding committee for Christian Business and Professional Women and served on the Board of Directors for Circle Drive Special Care Home. Through these activities she made many lifelong friends. During her retirement she enjoyed celebrations, conversations and activities with friends and family. She also spent time reading, gardening, travelling and cheering for the Maple Leafs.
Her extended family have been very important in her life. Marie was predeceased by her parents, Victor and Kate Kononoff. She is survived by her siblings: Val (Lucille) Kononoff, Mavis (Roland) Thiessen, Wally (Edith) Kononoff, and Ben (Jean) Kononoff and her much loved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
The family would like to express gratitude for the excellent medical care she received at City Hospital and RUH.
The memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Circle Drive Alliance Church (3035 Preston Ave S). Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Ruby Marie
Kononoff..
Death notice for the town of: Saskatoon, Province: Saskatchewan
A great friend and mentor! I first met Marie more than 50 years ago as a first year student nurse at City Hospital when Marie was the Nurses Christian Fellowship Sponsor. Our friendship has continued through the years and will be irreplaceable in this life. I share her hope that we will some day be reunited in the presence of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ – with no more pain, suffering or sorrow. May the words of Psalm 116 bring comfort to her family and extended family: “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants.”
