Robert K. Miller
Miller, Robert (Sonny)
21 May 1940 – 22 September 2019
Succumbed to Cancer on Sunday September 22nd at 1:45 am.
Robert was born to Orval and Lillian Miller and was the third of 5 children.
Sonny started his work life at Bucovetski’s and Consumers Co-operators, but the majority of his career was spent working at Mike’s Food Store. Mr. Brown then entrusted Bob to manage his chain of convenience stores , known as the Pinto Stores, where he retired.
Bob discovered his home away from home in the late 80’s early 90’s in Florida.
The Seagull Beach Club was that home annually from the first time he was there.
Over the years he made several friends, from other owners, tenants and staff such as Art and Shirley.
Throughout his life, Sonny made several friends, some near and some far, but none better than Fred and Nicole Trembinski. Over the years, Fred and Bob became successful business partners and landlords in Timmins.
Fred was also a good travelling partner and most recently one of his caregivers.
One of Sonny’s favourite times of the year was Christmas, when he prepared his annual feast for company on Christmas Eve. He loved to cook and was often told he missed his calling.
Bob loved his daily drives downtown to buy lottery tickets, do his banking and to just see who was out and about. Sonny’s other hobbies included needlepoint, gardening and most of all playing the slots on his iPad or in the casino.
Robert/Bob/Sonny, whatever you called him, will be missed by several people including special tenants and neighbours Paul & Helene and their kids, and Dennis. Also Fred and Nicole and their kids Jana and Fred and their families who referred to him as Mr. Bobb.
Robert is survived by his older brother Donald (late Viola) and their children Randy, Shelley(Rob), Dale(Samantha) and Dean (Vallery), and his younger sisters, Donna Tremblay (late Jean Guy) and their children Guy(Wilda) Renee(Mike), Lynn(Wayne), Paul(Deb) & Brian(Julie), Diann Youmans (Grant) and their son Allan(Liisa). Also survived by several great nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Orval in 1993 and Lillian 1997 and his sister Odney(Sis)Gionet 1998 (Guy 2017). Special thanks to the caregivers at the Georgian residence and the nurses in Hospice care. The family will receive friends on Friday September 27, 2019 from 10am to 11am followed by a memorial service at 11am at LESSARD-STEPHENS FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Huntington Society of Canada, or charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
