McLelland, Robert John (Russell)
(November 15, 1928 – September 19, 2019)
On September 19, 2019 at Shalom Village in Hamilton, Ontario in his 91st year.
Russell was pre-deceased by his much loved wife of 49 years Marjorie (Schaus) (2012), sister June McLelland (2015), and sister in law Doris Cantelon (2017).
He will be missed by his niece and nephew Cathie and Arnold deVries. Russell was also Great Uncle to Rob, Rhiane, Allison, and Natasha, and Great Great Niece Hailey.
Russell was part of the family that opened, owned, and operated McLelland and Son London Shop in downtown Hamilton for more than 50 years until he retired and closed the shop in 1986. He took great pride in serving his clientele and all of their needs.
Russell was an avid collector of autographs, military memorabilia and all things British. He treasured many of the personalized hand written correspondence he had from military officers, members of the Royal Family, and Jozef Karsch.
He was also a member of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry.
Russell spent the last 6 years of his life in Shalom Village in Hamilton, receiving wonderful care, support, and encouragement from everyone there. He especially loved going to Goldie’s Gym, and took great pride in the medals he received for participating in the Hustle For Health.
The family expresses tremendous gratitude and admiration to everyone involved with him at Shalom on the Zucker Unit.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Goldie’s Gym at Shalom Village would be much appreciated.
A private service will be held by the family.
