Robert Bob Louis VEITENHEIMER

It is with sadness the family of Robert (Bob) Veitenheimer announces his death on September 4, 2019 at the age of 86. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Winnifred; son Kevin and grandchildren Danielle, Joseph and Louis; daughter Linda (John); daughter Betty and grandsons Dallas (Emilie), Dylan, Lance (Cierra) and Luke; daughter Susan (Randy) and grandchildren Meagan (Brandon), Justin and Lindsey; and son Murray (Sarah) and grandchildren Hannah (Landon), Kyle and Morgan; brother Carl; sister-in-law Vivian; brother-in-law Webster (Loretta) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Gloria, brother Don and son-in-law Darrell.
He was born on June 27, 1933, the second child of Joe Veitenheimer and Myrt McCool. He grew up and attended school in Sovereign. After high school he began farming with his father. In 1960, he married Winnifred Haugen and they settled in Sovereign to raise a family. In 1984 they moved to the farm and then into Rosetown in 2008. He was actively involved in farming for close to 60 years and as recently as four years ago was still helping with harrowing, swathing and harvest.
In his younger years he was active in sports and, throughout his life, an avid fisherman. He was passionately curious and usually had a twinkle in his eye—or perhaps it was mischief. His family was his greatest love. He took enormous joy and pride in his children and grandchildren.
He served for a number of years as a councillor for the Village of Sovereign and as the village’s representative on the Milden Hospital Board. He was a member the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks in Milden serving as Treasurer for many years and he was a charter member of the Sovereign Lions Club. He also served as an informal ambassador for many years talking to people with colitis who faced surgery helping them prepare for life afterwards with an ostomy.
We would like to thank the Rose Villa for the care he received over the past four months.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the Rosetown United Church with Reverend Jo-Ann Hills officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rose Villa c/o the Heartland Health Region, P.O. Box 653, Rosetown, SK, S0L 2V0 or Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, P.O.
