MACHUM, Michael Otty – In loving memory of Michael Otty Machum, 68 years, of Manitoulin Island, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family Friday morning, September 13th, 2019 at his residence in Honora Bay. He was born in Sudbury on December 22, 1950. He hailed from Copper Cliff, and during his youth he found a love in art. In the early 1970s he took his love of art and went into the Print Making and Textile Art program at Cambrian College. From there he went to NSCAD (Nova Scotia College of Art and Design) to further his education. After attending NSCAD he went to Lethbridge University and got his Bachelors of Fine Arts. He moved to Manitoulin to the family camp, which was bought in 1969, and met his future wife in 1984 at the Anchor Inn. They settled at the Honora Bay Farm, which was originally his family’s camp and became the shepherd of the farm and his sheep. His accomplishments were many. He was an avid skier and he managed the football/basketball teams at Copper Cliff High School. He was a talented artist who displayed his art at many art shows, and in later years his artistry was showcased in his carpentry. He also loved music and playing the drums, was very knowledgeable about all types of music. His positivity and smile was infectious, he made a profound impact on everybody he met. Mike’s memory was amazing for past events in his life and History in general. He was a huge activist for Human Rights along with many other things. His greatest accomplishment was his family. He is greatly missed by his beloved wife Jennifer (nee Linley) Machum, his daughters, Jessica, Rebeccah (Murad), Savannah (Michael), and his darling granddaughter Molly. Dear brother of Kendal (husband Dennis), Jean (husband Michel), Howard (wife Anne-Marie), Harry (wife Dorothy), and Kenneth (wife Shelley) (both predeceased). Cherished son of Gordon and Marian Machum (both predeceased). Will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews, friends and fur buddies. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, July 13, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. at the Honora Bay Farm, more details will follow closer to the date. Michael has requested that everyone show up in a piece of camo clothing. Donations can be made to Little Current Fish and Game Club, Mindemoya Health Centre Oncology Program or the Northeast Cancer Centre.
