He was born in Sudbury on December 22, 1950. He hailed from Copper Cliff, and during his youth he found a love in art. In the early 1970s he took his love of art and went into the Print Making and Textile Art program at Cambrian College. He moved to Manitoulin to the family camp, which was bought in 1969, and met his future wife in 1984 at the Anchor Inn. They settled at the Honora Bay Farm, which was originally his family’s camp and became the shepherd of the farm and his sheep. His accomplishments were many. He was an avid skier and he managed the football/basketball teams at Copper Cliff High School. He was a talented artist who displayed his art at many art shows, and in later years his artistry was showcased in his carpentry. He also loved music and playing the drums, was very knowledgeable about all types of music. His positivity and smile was infectious, he made a profound impact on everybody he met. Mike’s memory was amazing for past events in his life and History in general. He was a huge activist for Human Rights along with many other things. His greatest accomplishment was his family. He is greatly missed by his beloved wife Jennifer (nee Linley) Machum, his daughters, Jessica, Rebeccah (Murad), Savannah (Michael), and his darling granddaughter Molly.
