Mary Elizabeth ‘Beth’ Thompson

Mary Elizabeth ‘Beth’ Thompson
March 28, 1918 – September 20, 2019
The family of Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Thompson sadly announces the passing of Beth on September 20th, 2019 at the age of 101.
Beth was born in 1918, the year World War 1 ended, and the year women in Canada were finally eligible to vote. Beth Thompson was born in Welland, Ontario. Beth’s mother was Mabel Teeter from Smithville, Ontario. Her father was United Church Minister Edwin Vincent Corbet Lewis from England. They had five kids, Ralph, Beth, Vincent, Peggy and David. Today only Peggy remains.
Beth’s father being in the ministry explains all the various places she lived in growing up: Welland, Pelham, Wiarton, Oxenden, Colpoys Bay, Damascus, Shannonville, and Prince Edward County where she settled.
She married Earl Thompson in the 40’s and they had three kids of their own: Ted Thompson, Blaine Thompson and Krista Hepburn. They lovingly adopted Anne who unfortunately passed away at a young age. They were also a safe haven and loving household for countless foster children over the years.
Beth worked at Maher shoes in Picton for many years, and all of us growing up bought our shoes from her. Till her passing she still knew the shoe sizes of most her many customers.
Beth was a great friend to so many, a wonderful wife, a great Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, and Great Grand Aunt to the Thompson and Lewis family. Beth now joins her husband Earl and her brothers in the heavens above. She will be sadly missed by her sons Ted and Blaine (Darlene), daughter Krista (Jim), grandchildren Craig Hepburn, CJ Thompson (Megan), Jaime Norris (Geoff), Jodie (Jon), Natasha Scott (Jason), and great grandchildren Brynlie, Oliver, Judah, Mercy, Desmond, Cruz, Aviana, Rory and Corbin.
Beth’s memorial service will be held Wednesday September 25th, 11am at the Picton United Church with visitation the hour prior. If desired, donations to Hospice Prince Edward or the Picton United Church Food Bank would be appreciated by her family.
Arrangements entrusted to the Whattam Funeral Home.
