Obituary
We are sad to announce that Marilyn Nielsen, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed peacefully at her home near Edmonton, at the age of 86.
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, Norman and Grace Wilson and her sister, Christine. She is survived by her husband, Ole; and their children, Margo (Glen) LaValley and their daughter, Maja; David (Paula) Nielsen and their sons, Paul and Mark; and Gordon Nielsen (Zahra Ramji) and his sons, Nikolas and Dustin; and her brothers, William Wilson (Betty) and Charles Wilson (Sandy).
Marilyn grew up in Amherstburg and went on to be a homemaker and food scientist. She received a BSc degree in home economics from the University of Toronto through the Macdonald Institute in Guelph and subsequently an MSc degree in food science at the University of Saskatchewan, where she was employed in research in the College of Home Economics. Marilyn was a book worm, a superbly gifted cook, a multitalented crafter, and a perceptive editor and financial adviser to her husband.
A Celebration of Marilyn’s Life will take place on Saturday, September 21 at Blackhawk Golf Club at 2:00 PM.
