BROWN, Margerie Lewise (nee Fritz)
(Sept. 27, 1937 – Sept. 15, 2019)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margerie Lewise Brown in her 82nd year. Predeceased by her husband of 59 years Douglas Alexander Brown and daughter of the late Albert Jacob & Mary-Katherine Fritz (nee Campbell). Survived by her children Michael (Louise) of Elliot Lake, Danny (Darlene) of Sudbury, Pamela (Wayne) of Onaping & the late Patricia Lynn. Loving grandmother to Mélanie McLean (Jesse), Vicky Desrochers (Jason), Carley Zammit (Abigale), Lyndsey Zammit, Dustin Zammit & the late Katie Lynn Zammit. Great-grandmother to Véronique, Arianne & Amélie Robitaille, Cameron & Kaitlyn Desrochers, Hayden Quinn & Olivia Zammit Hollands.
Margerie will be fondly remembered as loving sister to Don Fritz (Marie), Bryon Fritz (late Marilyn), Rick Fritz (late Jeannine) & the late Jim Fritz (late Barb). Dear sister-in-law of Sandra Sutherland (John) of Kincardine, Susan Patterson (Terry) of Windsor, Dale Brown (Helen) of Kelowna, B.C., Dana Brown (Brian) of Elliot Lake & the late Steven Brown. She will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Margerie was born in Kirkland Lake, raised in Listowel and returned home at many occasions. She was a long time resident of Elliot Lake for 59 years, owned & operated Gay-Lor Ladies Wear & Brown’s Flower Shop. She was actively involved with the United Church Women, Terry Fox Run, Canadian Cancer Society, Elliot Lake Palliative Care Program, St. Joseph’s General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary & volunteer driver with the Canadian Cancer Society. In Margerie’s early years in Elliot Lake, she was an avid curler. She was also a former recipient of the Citizen & Volunteer of the Year Award & also had winning entries with floral arrangements through the Elliot Lake Horticultural Society.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial wake will take place on Thursday September 26 from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm from the Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation Centre (36 Ontario Ave). The memorial service will be celebrated on Friday September 27, 2019 at 11 am from Holy Trinity United Church, 40 Hillside Dr. N., Elliot Lake. The Rev. Cory Vermeer-Cuthbert officiating.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation & gratitude to the dedicated support workers, Doctors & staff at the Elizabeth Centre in Val Caron for the kind & compassionate care they provided to our mother during her residence there.
The family would also like to express their sincere appreciation to all the staff at St. Joseph’s Manor in Elliot Lake for the kind & compassionate care they provided to our mother during her previous residency.
Thank you is also extended to doctors and nurses at St. Joseph’s General Hospital for the care they provided her & special thanks to Dr. DeBortoli for the care he provided to our mother throughout the years.
