It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Lomer Denis Doucet (formerly of Waltham, Cheticamp, and Grand Etang) on Friday, August 23, 2019 at Hanover District Hospital in Hanover, Ontario with family at his side after a 5 year struggle with Alzheimers. He was 94.
Lomer was born on March 5, 1925 in Grand Etang, Nova Scotia, where he worked as the local blacksmith. In 1962 he moved his family to Waltham, Massachusetts where he made his living as a carpenter until his retirement. He retired to Cheticamp where he continued his woodworking craft by making models of houses, churches and other structures that were of importance to him. One of which was the beautiful model of Cheticamp’s St. Peter’s church which he donated to and is now displayed in the back of that church.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Marie Domithilde; his sons Daniel (Mary) and Arthur (Karen); his Grandchildren Kyle, Nicole (Brendan), Renee (Damian), Kasey, Michael; his Great Grandchildren, Mikaela, Liam, Olivia, Aubree, and Mason.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Lomer was predeceased by his parents, the late John J. Doucet and Louise (Cormier) Doucet; his brothers Joseph, George, Willie James, Hector, and Leonard, as well as his sisters Catherine, Rose, Marie Sophie, and Viola.
Family and friends will honor and remember Lomer’s life by gathering for a Memorial at Grand Etang Church (St. Joseph’s Parish) on September 21st, 2019 at 10 a.m. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in the Grand Etang parish Cemetery.
