Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ken McDonald announce his passing on Thursday, September 5, 2019, at the age of 85 years, after a lengthy battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Ken will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his loving wife of 64 years, Sylvia (Vervynck); children, Bonnie, Randy (Alison); grandchildren, Leighton and Cosette; siblings, Muriel, Arnold, and Roy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Alvin and Julia; and his sister, Doris.
Starting at the age of 17, Ken worked on the oil rigs. Most recently, Ken worked as a refrigeration mechanic at Dow Chemical Canada in Fort Saskatchewan for 14 years and previously worked at Cimco Refrigeration, prior to enjoying almost 26 years of retirement, golfing, numerous bus trips, travelling twice per year to Palm Springs, and playing with his two grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m., on Friday, September 13, 2019, at St. Matthew’s Parish, 13131 – 86 Street, Edmonton, Alberta.
Memorial donations in Ken’s name may be made to either the Canadian Lung Association, #208 – 17420 Stony Plain Road NW, Edmonton, Alberta, T5S 1K6, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, #144 – 5241 Calgary Trail NW, Edmonton, Alberta, T6H 5G8.
