Obituary of John Mantel
Mantel, John of Aylmer passed away at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Friday, September 27, 2019 in his 88th year. Beloved husband of Johanna (Speelman) Mantel. Dear father of the late John H. Mantel(2009), Pete and Bogna Mantel of Dorchester, Bill and Judith Mantel of Burlington, Rob Mantel of Aylmer and Margaret and Rob DeJong of St Thomas. Loving grandfather of Jade(Dylan), Jesse, Oscar, Laurier, Simone, Ian, Hannah, Aaron(Kendra), Joshua, Benjamin and Kate. Survived by siblings Nellie Buis, Marg Flick(Ron), Pete Mantel(Marian) and cousin Ann Drenth(Chris). Also survived by sisters-in-law Marie VanDyk, Ronnie VanKampen, Wilhemina VanderGeest(John), Ina Hoogstra(John), Lydia DeRuiter and Mary Gibbons(Doug), brothers-in-law Martin Speelman(Antonia), Arie Speelman(Joann) and John Speelman(Corrie) and a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a sister Trudy Wiebenga and brothers-in-law Bill Wiebenga and Richard Buis. Born in Andijk, The Netherlands on December 21, 1931, son of the late John and Geertje (Wagenaar) Mantel. He was a faithful member of the Aylmer Christian Reformed Church and for 38 years he sang on the Male Crescendo Choir in St. Thomas. John was a proud grower of Hothouse Tomatoes for over 50 years. He was instrumental in forming the Aylmer Corner Cupboard and was president for many years. Friends may call at the H. A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Aylmer Christian Reformed Church on Monday, September 30, 2019 at 11:00 am. Interment, Aylmer Cemetery.
