Obituary of John David Chevalier
CHEVALIER, John David McNeil – Passed away peacefully, at Fairhaven Home, Peterborough, on Friday September 6, 2019, at 88 years of age.
Beloved husband of Laurie (nee Barrie) for 66 years. Loving father of Barrie (Sherry), Karen (Ian Kirkland), Shawn (Rebekah), Cheryl (Paul Jamieson) and Don (Deb). Dear grandfather of Jared, Braden, Jeremy (Katherine), James (Gillian), Lindsay (Rob), Daniel, Theresa (Brandon), Kendra, Jeffrey, Dylan, Julia, Aleesha and Victoria. Great-grandfather of Ira, Maude and Ellis. Brother of the late Fern (surviving husband Ted Youngs) and the late Philip (late Betty) and brother-in-law of John D. Barrie (late Nancy) and the late Ken Barrie (late Pat).
A retired electrician and owner/operator of Chevalier Electric in Peterborough. Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, he had a natural Newfie sense of humour.
John was a long time member of Knox United Church and more recently, Northminster United. John and Laurie retired to their “Homestead” near Bancroft where many family gatherings were held. He loved snowmobiling, hunting and fishing.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road, on Saturday, September 14th at 3 pm with visiting one hour prior (2-3 pm). A reception will follow.
If desired, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Fairhaven Foundation or the Alzheimer Society. Condolences may be made at www.AshburnhamFuneral.ca. Special thanks to the Fairhaven staff who have cared for Dad so well for the past five years.
