Izaak Abraham Beerens – 95 years young
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Izaak Abraham Beerens on September 26, 2019 at Wynn Park Villa, where he called home for the past three years. Izaak was born in Oostburg, Netherlands on November 17, 1923. He immigrated to Canada shortly after World War II. He worked on various farms before becoming a Custodian in the Truro area, where he meant the love of his life Grace. As a Custodian he worked at the County of Colchester, Patterson Law, Mitchell Optometrists, Montreal Trust, Bank of Nova Scotia, Success Business College, Royal Bank, and the Credit Bureau until his retirement in 1989. Izaak was an avid Gardener and always had gorgeous tulips around his handcrafted wind mill at their home in Bible Hill. He enjoyed many interests including bowling, fishing, wood working, camping and working on the hockey rink he built for the neighborhood kids, in his back yard. Every night Izaak could be seen burning the midnight oil, outside in his wooden shoes, flooding the rink for the kids to enjoy fresh ice the next day. Nothing filled his heart more than to watch the local youth and his grandchildren hone their skills on the back yard rink.
He was a caring loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by brothers Willem , Abraham (Bram), who all reside in the Netherlands; his daughter Blanche (Lewis) Parker, Bible Hill, Wilma Allison, Truro; grandsons Wade (Cathy) Parker, Bible Hill, Steven (Kelly) Parker, Pugwash, Jeff (Bonnie) Parker, Pugwash, 8 great grandchildren ; 4 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Grace, of 41 years, he was predeceased by his parents Johan and Jacoba Beerens; brothers Cornelius, Michiel, Jacobus (Ko), Arjaan, Koos and two sisters, Johannes (Jan), Pieternella (Piette). He will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
Many thanks to the staff at Wynn Park Villa for their kindness and compassion shown to Izaak, over the past three years. With his wit and humor he kept the staff on their toes! The family thanks you so much for the loving care you shared.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 1st from 1 p.m. until time of funeral service at 2 p.m. in the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro with Rev. Lori Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow in Bible Hill Cemetery. If so desired, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
