Ingeborg Emmy Tismer
July 25, 1930 – September 21, 2019
Memorial Donation
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ingeborg Emmy Tismer on Saturday, September 21, 2019, at 89 years of age, after suffering a lengthy illness. Her final days, though often difficult, were filled with reminiscing, compassion and love. She maintained her dignity and sense humour until the very end.
Ingeborg was born July 25, 1930 in Calbe Saale, Germany. She grew up in Landsberg an der Warthe, now Gorzow Wielkopolski, Poland. There, she experienced a fairy-tale childhood of which she reminisced every day. Her hardships in life began with the onset of World War II when she was only nine years of age. It continued well past wars end.
Inge and most of her family members survived this brutal conflict as told in her memoir, “Hidden Beneath the Thorns, Growing Up Under Nazi Rule,” in which she describes her life and her family’s Anti-Nazi actions. Eventually, she met and married the love of her life, Joachim Tismer, and emigrated to Canada in 1957 with their young family.
Most who knew Inge, know just how hard she and Joachim, worked after their arrival to Winnipeg. Aside from working nights, she also sacrificed 48 years of her life to look after her only son, Joerg, who suffered Juvenile Diabetes from birth, and all complications associated with it. In addition, she and her husband also raised 3 girls. Among her happiest times were the many years she spent on her 5 acres near Oakbank, Manitoba.
Inge is now reunited with those she loved dearly and who predeceased her. Among those are her son, Joerg Tismer, her daughter, Margit Sarapu, her parents, Bruno and Martha Wernicke, and her grandparents, Otto and Emmy Blucher. She was especially looking forward to the reunification with her late husband, Joachim, who predeceased her in 1988. We’re quite sure he will welcome her to the other side dressed in a new blue suit, carrying an armful of gladiolus: his smile bigger than life itself.
It was her final wish that no service shall be held. As she directed, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada (Manitoba Branch) 1-452 Dovercourt Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3Y 1G4.
Rest in Peace Mom. You will always be loved and never forgotten.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Ingeborg Emmy Tismer..
