It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn
Viola Stoyles (nee Dicks) on September 17, 2019 following a brave
battle with cancer. Born, October 19, 1932 on Bell Island, NF, she
was predeceased by parents Frank & Florrie (nee Thorne), daughter
Denese (in infancy), daughter-in-law Marie-France Cotton, brothers
Ronald (in infancy) and Bert (Betty) and sisters Elizabeth (in
infancy), Vivian (Paul), Valerie (Kim) and sister-in-law Edith. She
leaves to mourn sons Dana, Deven and Duane and daughters Erin (Brad
Hickey) and Danita (Brian Tremblett) and fur-babies Sasha and Kya.
Sadly missed by siblings Melvin (Bernardine), Lloyd (Marie), Muriel,
Lorne (Shelia), Clayton (Hanna) Cal (Debi) and Eric (Marg) as well as
grandchildren Danny (Natasha), Desiree, Ashlyn, Joshua, Sarah and many
great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Our beautiful mother was strong and independent; the constant in our
lives. The one we could count on, who would do almost anything for
her children and those she loved. She possessed a wonderful sense of
humour that often had us in stitches, which she maintained until the
end. She enjoyed reading, gardening and loved to get her hands on a
chainsaw! She could still climb and trim a tree at 80 years young!
She had such a zest for life and was always so young at heart. She
loved to dance, especially to country and Newfoundland
music–even rap on occasion! She had a soft spot for all animals
and always seemed to be raising some type of orphaned critter. She
held such compassion for children and the unfortunate. She was the
cool mom and our friends were always welcomed. And nobody could beat
mom’s cooking! She was always happiest when June rolled around
and we spent summers at the beach making sandcastles and memories.
Oh, the memories.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Hobbitstee
Wildlife Refuge or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
A Funeral service will be held at Corbett funeral home, 95 Dundas st,
N. on Sunday September 22, 2019 at 1p.m. with visitation beginning at
11a.m.
