Obituary of Elsie Mellentin
A woman before her time, our Elsie, loving wife, mom, grandmother, friend, auntie, strong stubborn English woman and proud Canadian, kept all those around her, laughing and smiling, amongst the tears, to the very end.
Always putting her family first, she made sure we knew she loved us, “I love you all”, but wanted us to let her go so she could be with her sweetheart Ted once again.
At the age of 88, she lived independently in her own home, but when the stories we were used to hearing over and over again stopped coming, we knew things had changed. Rallying, we took over caring for her at home, longing for those stories of her life growing up in England, meeting and marrying her Polish soldier, and immigrating to Canada at the young age of 21. It is now up to us to keep those stories alive.
So it is with heartache mixed with relief that peace and comfort have returned, that we say goodbye to homemade fries, hand knit slippers, homemade apple and blueberry pies, and most importantly our dear mom, grandmother, auntie, friend, sweet lady, Elsie Mellentin (née Rayton). Love you forever. Back together, forever. ❤️
She will be greatly missed by her daughter Frances with son-in-law Rick, grandson Chris with Diana, and granddaughter Kathryn with Josh, daughter Lynn with son-in-law Gerry, granddaughter Stephanie with Cam, and grandson Stephen with Rosalia, daughter Gail with son-in-law Barry, granddaughter Robyn with Phil, granddaughter Samantha with Andrew and grandson Ben with Mollie, doggies Lucy, Macy and Hudson, and all her friends, neighbours.
There will be a private family interment. A Celebration of Life will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest a donation to one of Elsie’s favourite charities :
