Eleanor Gladys Balcome
1932-2019
Our lovely mother Eleanor, passed away on September 13, 2019
in Evergreen Home, Kentville. Mom was born in Halifax on May 10, 1932,
the daughter of the late Harvey Sr. and Gladys (McKellop) Hubley. She
spoke fondly of Halifax and her childhood there including her school
years at the Convent of the Sacred Heart and later, the Halifax Ladies
College (graduating in 1950 as Head Girl). Mom was a passionate reader
and a student of English history. She loved music (from opera to
ABBA); her home in Kentville; conquering the New York Times crossword
puzzles and driving fast. Most of all, she loved her children and
grandchildren. Mom cherished us and we adored her. Her love was
steadfast. When we were growing up, she was the “cool mom”
who always had time for our friends. Our mom was smart, witty,
self-effacing, tolerant, compassionate, gracious and kind. We were so
lucky to have had her in our lives. Mom will be deeply missed by her
children, Mary, Deb (Sheila) and Randall (Lynn); grandchildren, Connor
and Kathleen; sister-in-law, Zondra Hubley; niece, Melissa Buckler;
nephew, Geoff Hubley; their children, Ella, Jack, Elliott, Dawson and
her cousin, Heather Williams. Mom was predeceased by her only sibling
Harvey Jr. and our father Percy Balcome Jr. Cremation has taken place.
There will be no visitation or service at this time. We would like to
thank and say goodbye to special staff and friends at Evergreen.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and
Cremation Services, Kentville.
Mom remembered as a child
running as fast as she could and saying to herself, “This is it.
This is it. This is the day I’m going to
fly!”
Today’s the day
Mom.
