Edith Faris

FARIS, Edith Fay (Lowry)
Edie passed away on September 4, 2019 after a long and feisty battle with dementia. Edie was born in Belfast, N. Ireland on May 20, 1939. She was married to David for over 60 years. They immigrated to Canada with their young family in 1972 and settled in Orangeville. Edie worked for the local hospital and at Greening Donald Ltd, before completing her real estate license and continued to work at a career she loved until the disease started to progress. Edie was also an active volunteer in the community, including many years dedicated to the local skating club and Westminster United Church.
Edie is predeceased be her siblings; Marlene, Nan, Sam, Margaret, Dorrie and recently, her husband David, (May 12, 2019). She is survived by her children; Gary (Ann), Paul, and Laura (Craig Haughton), and her grandchildren; Erinn (Derek Halls), Kyla (Jeremy Cronin), Abbey Faris, and Mackenzie, Josh and Kaleigh Haughton, as well as her brother, Bill Lowry. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews in Canada, Michigan, N. Ireland, Scotland, and England. Despite her inability to communicate in her final weeks, her 4-month-old great-granddaughter, Amelia Halls, brought a smile to her face and a light to her eyes. She has been asking to go home for many years now, so we will be taking her ashes, as well as David’s, to Belfast on September 12th, where they can finally rest together.
Friends are welcome to join us as we celebrate Edie’s life on October 5, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. at Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 21 First St., Orangeville.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Skate Canada Orangeville, where she spent so many years tirelessly fundraising, and where her daughter and many of her grandchildren learned to skate.
A tree will be planted in memory of Edith in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. The annual dedication service will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.dodsandmcnair.com
