Douglas Maxwell Hare

HARE, DOUGLAS MAXWELL – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital on Thursday September 5, 2019. Doug was born in Collingwood in 1938 and for many years was a permanent fixture in the hockey scene. He was involved with minor hockey the Collingwood Blues. He was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, Queens Own Rifles for four years and spent time in Germany as a peace keeper. Doug is survived by his wife Jean of 54 years, his daughter Jennifer and her husband Rob Porter, and the pride of his life, his two grandsons Marcus and Jackson and Drew Jackson’s girlfriend, as well as, his step brother Rob Hare. Doug had one mission in life and that was to be the best grandpa in the world. He played an active role in his grandson’s athletic endeavours travelling afar to many games of football, rugby, hockey and baseball where he was the sideline coach. He is predeceased by his father mother, stepmother and his siblings; Betty, Evelyn, Alfie, Don and John. The family would like to thank the ICU staff and Doctors for the brave attempt that was made. Special thanks to Lorrie McQuarrie, security officer for staying close by our side and Erin the social worker. Donations may to the Collingwood Sports Hall of Fame or a Charity of your choice
