Charles Robert Charlie MacIntosh

Charles Robert (Charlie) MacIntosh
1920-2019
Charlie MacIntosh passed peacefully at the Prince County
Hospital in his 99th year.
A proud son of Cape Breton, Charlie was the (precious)
firstborn to John and Bertha. As a teenager Charlie’s family
moved to Yarmouth, where he met Beryle. A wartime wedding in
1941 then saw him return to sea on aboard the HMCS Prince David before
returning home to serve the Navy at Cornwallis as an instructor.
Charlie and Beryle moved around Nova Scotia while
children Bob, Eileen (Rogers) and Chris were young, then settled in
Summerside in 1959. The transplanted Bluenosers made
a home on Highland Avenue, where Charlie
and Beryle celebrated 59 years of
marriage.
Charlie’s final career, retirement, was highly
successful. Spanning over 35 years, he enjoyed the benefits
of deep sea fishing, reuniting with his siblings
(Frank, Eddie, Jenny, Doris, Eileen, Viv & Ann) in Cape
Breton, curling and volunteering at the Silver Fox, cheating at cards
and occasionally hunting a frozen rabbit or (illegal) deer.
Charlie’s greatest joy came from torturing his
grandchildren (Robbie MacIntosh, Sara MacPherson and Chad, Casey
& Becky Rogers) and great grandchildren (Madeline, Morgan
& Bridget MacPherson and Jasmin & Liam Jacob). All
were raised with a sense of how a good prank teaches us not to take
ourselves too seriously.
Charlie was a resident of Park Hill since 2015, receiving
excellent personal care, though he talked most about the high quality
of the meals.
Charlie MacIntosh was an honourable man,
who demonstrated through a life of quiet and thoughtful action what it
means to serve your family, your community and your
country.
