Helen Ludwar passed away suddenly on Saturday September 14 at the Penticton Regional Hospital with family close by.
She is lovingly remembered by her six, children, Larry, Don, Wayne, Brian, Karen and Joe, 13 grand children, and 14 great-grand children and all of their spouses.
Helen was born on the farm near Bangor Saskatchewan during the depression and helped raise her siblings while her mother’s health issues were being treated. She met her husband, William (Bill) Ludwar and they married after harvest in 1954. Their family grew quickly and they decided to leave the family farm in Saskatchewan in favour of the hills of British Columbia in search of good employment. Helen was a dedicated homemaker looking after the growing family as Bill followed heavy construction jobs throughout the Kootenays, eventually settling in the village of South Slocan in 1968.
Bill passed away shortly after their 25th anniversary leaving Helen with two young teenagers. Helen met her second husband, Tom, originally from Bathurst New Brunswick, and they worked the family farm, enjoyed gold-panning and other activities. Helen and Tom moved to Penticton in 2004 and enjoyed retirement. Helen’s favourite thing were family camp outs and time with family. Tom passed in 2012 and in spite of various health challenges, Helen continued in her activities of bowling, bingo, and keeping up with family. She had just returned from a visit to family in Saskatchewan before her sudden passing.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday September 21 at 1:00 pm at Providence Funeral Home in Penticton BC. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Helen Ludwar..
