John Jansen
July 26, 1947 to September 5, 2019
John Passed away at Fairhaven Long Term Care on September 5, 2019, with his wife Adriana (Liza) by his side after a courageous and lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He will be sadly missed by her and his three children, Lisa, Renee, Edward (Marla) and his two grandchildren, Raechal and Dexter as well as his four siblings, in-laws, extended family, many friends and all that knew him.
He loved the outdoors and was an avid competitor in the Arctic Winter Games, winning many medals and he was also a fierce marathon runner. After graduation from Ryerson University he headed West and then North and became instrumental in surveying the Dempster Highway from the Yukon to Inuvik NWT as well as the Highway from Inuvik to Tuktoyuktuk, which was completed in 2017. Later in his career he was a Resource Person for the Yukon Territorial Government and was involved in the settlement for Land Claims. He and Liza returned to Ontario in 2002 and settled on Buckhorn Lake for 11 years with a subsequent move to Peterborough in 2013.
In keeping with John’s wishes cremation has taken place. A visitation will take place at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road, Peterborough on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. with a Service to commence at 1:30 p.m. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers donations to the Fairhaven Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Condolences may be made at www.AshburnhamFuneral.ca.
