On Thursday, August 29, 2019, Vicki Gerbrandt, loving wife and mother of three passed away at home in Anola, Manitoba the age of 72.
Growing up on the prairies of Manitoba, Vicki was near the top end of Walter and Helena Penner’s family. This was a time when it was common for the older children to care for younger siblings. Darlene, Jim, Dave, John, Ruth, Gloria, Ken, Lily, Jerry, Pearl and Ruby watched their sister pioneer some firsts, enjoy life’s laughable moments and endure hardships with grace. She introduced Teresa as their first niece, followed by Jason the adventurer, then Scott slid in as the fun loving youngest.
In her heart, Vicki was a city girl, living downtown Wolseley suited her just fine. Everywhere she needed to be was a simple bus stop away. However, her destiny led her to a country life with her husband Herb to raise their family. Vicki was an incredible hostess and knew how to make people feel comfortable. Though Vicki’s baking was blue ribbon her real super power was listening. She simply allowed and accepted the words and feelings of others without judgment. Right till the very end, she heard everything.
Vicki, your caring concern for you family is embedded in our memory. Thankfully your suffering is over and your faith in Jesus carries on. You’re loved by all who knew you; Teresa’s son Steven, Jason and Karen’s boys, Aiden, Jared and Trevor, Scott and Jana’s children, Tim, Kyle and Sean.
May your legacy of exceptional listening carry-on.
A private family interment took place at Queens Valley Cemetery.
