KENNEDY, Vernon Joseph
Vern Kennedy was a teacher, an explorer and a story teller. He weaved magical old oak trees and adventurous expeditions into his tales, many of which he lived in real life. Vernlooked at the world through a lens of optimism and admiration, giving each interaction his full attention and commitment. Vern lived a full life, he was loved and respected by his family, friends, colleagues and students. On Sunday August 4th, 2019, at the age of 72, Vern passed away surrounded by his family and held by his son Ryan, his daughter Erin, his wife Mona and his brother Bryan.
Forever curious about what was around the next corner or where a road led, Vern shared his love for adventure with his wife Mona, with whom he journeyed through many countries;his son Ryan, married to Melissa, and their children Caden and Avin, who bring laughter and light to each day; his daughter Erin, and her husband Yoshihiro Tsunoda, who share Vern’s enthusiasm to run and bein nature; Mona’s children, Jessica, married to James Bryce, and their children Corden, Ariya and Soren, who were Vern’s happy helpers around the house; Dawson Long, who is generous with his humour and talents as an electrician; and Sarah Long, married to Wade Seward, who bring the joy of conversation. Vern is missed by his brother Bryan, and his family Rita and Ian, with whom many holidays and family vacations were spent together; Sharon Miller and Dan Boffa; John and Sharon Miller; Keith and Janet Miller; Brenda Hawke; and Vern’s many nieces, nephews and friends.
Vern loved to spend time in nature. He was happiest when in the forests and lakes of Ontario, skiing through the West Coast mountains and the Rockies, hiking the Inca Trail, exploring the corners of Australia, New Zealand, South America, Japan, and Sweden, and sharing a good glass of wine with friends and family along the way.
A private gathering in celebration of Vern’s life will take place at a later date.
