Shirley Edna Mutch nee Fuller

Shirley Edna Mutch (nee Fuller) passed away peacefully on August 25, 2019 at Dulcina Hospice in Calgary.
Born January 24, 1929 in Youngstown Alberta, Shirley was the last surviving child of William Frederick Fuller and Amelia Fuller (nee Hartmann). Loving mother of Stuart and Kathy (Paul) and loving grandmother to Eric Long. Shirley was pre-deceased by her husband Jim and by eight brothers and sisters. She has numerous nieces and nephews scattered throughout Alberta, B.C. and Ontario.
Shirley attended the University of Alberta and taught school in rural Alberta and in Calgary. She married Jim in 1954. Jim’s career with Mobil Oil took them to Swift Current, Regina, Edmonton and lastly Calgary where they settled in 1964. Shirley was a voracious reader and she passed on her love of learning to her children. She had an eye for colour and form and a remarkable visual memory, which she used to great effect in decorating and gardening. She educated herself in the world of business and enjoyed success as an investor. She was instrumental in keeping Memorial Park Library open as a lending library. It is now a national historic site.
Shirley’s family would like to thank her devoted family doctor Patricia Bryden and endocrinologist Julie McKeen for their expert and attentive care. Thanks also goes to the caring staff at Dulcina Hospice and to the excellent caregivers from the Nurse Next Door, in particular Katie, Angel, Oxana and Kristina.
A celebration of life will be held at the Earl Grey Golf Club (6540 20 St SW) on Friday, August 30, 2019 at 3:00pm.
